219. Brighten the Corner Where You Are 隨處發光

Brighten the Corner Where You Are by Charles H. Gabriel. A lively hymn telling everyone to rise and preach the gospel of salvation to all mankind. This arrangement keeps the left hand accompaniment simple so as to focus on the running quaver passages for the melodic right hand. Sincerely hope that through our fingers, we too can brighten every corner wherever we are. Hallelujah, Praise the Lord!

Do not wait until some deed of greatness you may do,
Do not wait to shed your light afar,
To the many duties ever near you now be true,
Brighten the corner where you are.
Brighten the corner where you are! Brighten the corner where you are!
Someone far from harbor you may guide across the bar,
Brighten the corner where you are.

Just above are clouded skies that you may help to clear,
Let not narrow self your way debar,
Tho’ into one heart alone may fall your song of cheer,
Brighten the corner where you are.
Brighten the corner where you are! Brighten the corner where you are!
Someone far from harbor you may guide across the bar,
Brighten the corner where you are.

Here for all your talent you may surely find a need,
Here reflect the Bright and Morning Star,
Even from your humble hand the bread of life may feed,
Brighten the corner where you are.
Brighten the corner where you are! Brighten the corner where you are!
Someone far from harbor you may guide across the bar,
Brighten the corner where you are.

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see.

Thro’ many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come;
‘Tis grace hath bro’t me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be, As long as life endures.

Yea, when this heart and flesh shall fail, And mortal life shall cease;
I shall possess, within the veil, A life of joy and peace.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed.

234. Nearer, My God, to Thee 與主日近

The hymn is based on the story of Jacob’s Ladder. Tells of a dream Jacob had while fleeing his brother, where he saw a ladder reaching from the earth to heaven with angels ascending and descending it. At the top, God promised Jacob and his descendants the land, countless future offspring, and universal blessing. Jacob awoke, realizing the place was holy as God’s house and named it Bethel. He then set up the stone he used as a pillow as a pillar and poured oil on it as an offering, beginning a relationship where God promised to be with Jacob and fulfil his promises. A well-loved hymn by many, melody with simple left hand accompaniment makes it easy to learn and play. Praise the Lord!

Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee!
E’en though it be a cross That raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be, Nearer, my God, to Thee.
Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee!

Though like the wanderer, The sun gone down,
Darkness be over me, My rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be Nearer, my God, to Thee.
Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee!

There let the way appear, Steps unto heav’n;
All that Thou sendest me, In mercy giv’n;
Angels to beckon me Nearer, my God, to Thee.
Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee!

Then, with my waking thoughts Bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be Nearer, my God, to Thee.
Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee!

27. Jesus Loves Even Me 耶穌愛我

How much do you think our Lord Jesus love us? Many often we forget and wander away from the path He has shown us. Yet by dying on the cross, shedding His precious blood to redeem us, showering His blessings and grace daily upon us to demonstrate His greatest love to everyone of us. We are but dust on this earth. Are you glad and joyful to feel that He is still loving us. This hymn certainly tells us that. Let us constantly sing this and let it remain in our heart, “I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves even me!”

I am so glad that our Father in heav’n,
Tells of His love in the Book He has giv’n,
Wonderful things in the Bible I see;
This is the dearest, that Jesus loves me.
I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me,
I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves even me.

Jesus loves me and I know I love Him,
Love brought Him down my poor soul to redeem;
Yes, it was love made Him die on the tree,
Oh, I am certain that Jesus loves me.
I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me,
I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves even me.

Tho’ I forget Him and wander away,
Kindly He follows wherever I stray;
Back to His dear loving arms would I flee
When I remember that Jesus loves me.
I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me,
I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves even me.

Oh, if there’s only one song I can sing,
When in His beauty I see the great King,
This shall my song in eternity be:
“Oh, what a wonder that Jesus loves me.”
I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me,
I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves even me.

He guides me along the right paths, bringing honor to His Name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me. Your rod and Your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.”

263. What a Friend We Have in Jesus 耶穌恩友

Hallelujah, praise the Lord! Another opportunity to learn one of the favourite classic hymn “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” by Charles C. Converse. Jesus bears all our sins and griefs, even die for us on the cross. No friend in this world would do that for us. A true Friend we can talk to, a faithful Friend that can share with our sorrows and weakness in our prayer.

What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry Ev’rything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry Ev’rything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our ev’ry weakness; Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge, Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee; Thou wilt find a solace there.

Hold Thou my hand; so weak I am, and helpless,
I dare not take one step without Thy aid;
Hold Thou my hand; for then, O loving Saviour,
No dread of ill shall make my soul afraid.

Hold Thou my hand, and closer, closer draw me
To Thy dear self— my hope, my joy, my all;
Hold Thou my hand, lest haply I should wander,
And, missing Thee, my trembling feet should fall.

Hold Thou my hand; the way is dark before me
Without the sunlight of Thy face divine;
But when by faith I catch its radiant glory,
What heights of joy, what rapturous songs are mine!

Hold Thou my hand, that when I reach the margin
Of that lone river Thou didst cross for me,
A heav’nly light may flash along its waters,
And ev’ry wave like crystal bright shall be.

When doubts and fears arise, Teach me Thy way!
When storms o’er spread the skies, Teach me Thy way!
Shine through the cloud and rain, Through sorrow, toil and pain;
Make Thou my pathway plain, Teach me Thy way!

Long as my life shall last, Teach me Thy way!
Where’er my lot be cast, Teach me Thy way!
Until the race is run, Until the journey’s done,
Until the crown is won, Teach me Thy way!
