Hallelujah, Praise the Lord! Do you know a beautiful name that is above all names? That name is Jesus, a name that has power to free us from sin. A matchless and wonderful name that all of us should sing praises to. This arrangement for flute and piano tells us how His name was revealed to mankind. A name that brings joy and light to this world. A name that is above every name that live within our inner heart.
Praise the Lord! Hymn 272 The Comforter Has Come was composed by a well known Irish-born American hymnwriter William J. Kirkpatrick. After His ascension, the Lord Jesus fulfils His promised by sending the Holy Spirit to be with us as our Helper, our Comforter, and to guide us into all truth. As members of the Ture Jesus Church, we have a duty and mission to spread this good tidings to all corners of the world. After proclaiming that the Comforter Has Come in the first verse, this arrangement for clarinet and piano has a variation in the middle section leading to the climax reprise of the main theme.
Hallelujah, Praise the Lord! Complete another piano six hands for hymn 282 To the Work. This hymn has an uplifting melody. The feeling of dotted rhythm creates the urge, eager and excitement to go and do the mighty work of our Lord Jesus. Let all of us have faith, hope and love to labour till the Master comes. Amen.
While studying in London, I flew over to Los Angeles in December 1986 where my parents were working in the IA office in Garden Grove. We went to an evening orchestral concert by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra playing Korngold Violin Concerto and Dvorak Symphony no. 8. The concert began with Webber’s Der Freischütz Overture. After a few bars of the introduction, a French horn quartet emerged calmly with this peaceful melody. In my head went, “hey, I knew this, that is our hymn 231 My Jesus, as Thou Wilt”.
French Horn has a mellow, warm and gentle sound. It suites this hymn very well as we humbly ask our Lord Jesus to strengthen our faith and guide our every steps in life, whether through sorrow or joy that His will be done!
Hallelujah, Praise the Lord! Hymn 421 Come to the Feast for Trumpet and Piano. The sound of trumpet calling for all to the wonderful feast of our Lord Jesus. We as the believers of the True Jesus Church should all rise up and go out to spread this wonderful message of perfect salvation to our relatives, friends and to those who are around us. The march like character of this hymn also reminds us not to delay, but rather march out to do this exciting ministry of preaching to far and near. Are we ready?
Hallelujah, Praise the Lord! A new arrangement hymn 492 Let Others See Jesus in You by B. B. McKinney for six hands piano. As the children of God, we ought to live for Christ day and night. Be pure, faithful and true to our Lord Jesus. Preach the perfect salvation gospel far and wide so that others around us can see Jesus in us. This hymn brings encouragement and joy to us all when we can sing praises to our Lord with thirty fingers!
Hallelujah, Praise the Lord! Hymn 351 for violin and piano is out now. This calm, wonderful and melodious hymn reminds us to find strength and trust in the Lord Jesus to meet our daily trials. Pray to the Lord, ask Him to help and guide our every step, that we will be able to reach the promised eternal heavenly home one day.
Hallelujah, Praise the Lord! Hymn 174 The True Church Is Established played on the Pipe organ at Edinburgh Church in Scotland, UK.
One of the World Delegates Conference was held in Edinburgh Church almost 30 years ago. I remembered I played the organ during the opening ceremony for hymn nos. 1 Holy, Holy, Holy and 171 The Church Has One Foundation. As there weren’t any pipe organ at True Jesus Church around the world at the time, it must be the first time for most delegates to hear the sound of a pipe organ used during service and worship. From a moderate volume start to a powerful majestic full organ for the last verse that everyone can feel the mighty force of the king of instruments.
Sadly, the organ has not been tuned and used for over ten years, quite a lot of notes are either out of tune, or not worked at all. Only the upper manual of the organ is working. The hymn is transposed to A major in order for most notes to be sounded and balanced. Foot pedal only worked for tonic, subdominant and dominant .
Hallelujah, praise the Lord! Hymn 204 By faith We Have Hope arranged for oboe and piano. I remembered more than 20 years ago when I was teaching in secondary school, I came across the double-reed instruments of oboe and bassoon. I had a go at both of them and found that it was not that easy to produce a good sound, much more difficult than a clarinet or flute. Yet the sound of the oboe is so different to other woodwind family members that I have decided to arrange this hymn with an Oboe.
The melody by this unknown composer is very simple and yet it carries a special message – we as sojourners who are temporarily residing in this world that is not ours should live a simple life. With this in mind, I have also made the accompaniment very simple to highlight this point.
By faith we have the greatest hope and prize awaiting us all in the eternal heavenly Kingdom. Read from below the translation of UK hymns of Praise which is much closer to the Chinese lyrics.
1 By faith we have hope in Jesus Away from our sins and fears, He conquered the grave to save us, And now He will draw us near; Our eyes will behold His glory, Our flesh will become like Christ, The power which raised our Saviour Will too be our greatest prize.
2 By faith we have hope in heaven, Our home for eternity, For earth is but just a moment, The sigh of a fading breeze; We pray for the Lord’s returning, We look to His throne above, Our hearts will remain untainted, Our songs full of grace and love.
3 By faith we have hope in glory, A time when our hope comes true, New heaven, new earth, new story Where sin can never undo; The tears which run down our faces, Our God will wipe them away, For true is His ev’ry promise, Our hope will come true one day.
Hallelujah, praise the Lord! Frist arrangement for piano six hands for the start of March > Hymn 436 All the Way My Saviour Leads Me. Psalms 32:8 reminds us that God will instruct us and teach us in the way we should go. He will counsel us with His eye upon us. May our Lord Jesus’ grace, love and mercy be with us always, leading our path to the eternal home in the future.
